1. Calcium Hypochlorite- Cal Hypo (solid)
When the compound is added into the water. The chlorine in it reacts with water to form some chemicals such as hypochlorous acid. This hypochlorous acid kills bacteria and other germs. It is strongly alkaline. It acts as a great pool sanitizer and provides the benefits of calcium to the water.
Hypochlorous acid is used which is good sanitizer. But there is one problem with hypochlorous acid. It is not much stable. It can break down when exposed to UV rays from the sun and can also combine with other chemicals to form new compounds.
So, there is a need to use some sort of stabilizing agent. One of the most stabilized agents used for pool chlorinators is cyanuric acid. It is more stable compound when reacts with chlorine. It also does not break down easily when composed of UV radiation from the sun.
2. Sodium Hypochlorite- Bleach (liquid)
Now let us discuss in detail about sodium hypochlorite, liquid chlorine also known as bleach. It is extremely alkaline in nature with a pH level of 13.0. Liquid chlorine or simply bleach is easy to measure and affordable. It is also a good sanitizer for pool treatment. It can be used for both residential and commercial pools.
Also, it is easily available in the pool market. It is also great to use because it is an automated chemical feeder. You can buy it at a low cost which is also a plus point for liquid chlorine.
But alongside it also has some of the drawbacks as well. It may get worse in some weeks and when exposed to direct sunlight it may worsen in days. One more drawback of using liquid chlorine is that it has a high pH value. The higher pH level of chlorine is less effective. The lower the pH value the more effective is chlorine’s killing speed. So, it is advised to use a lower pH value.
3. Lithium Hypochlorite- Lithium Hypo
Now let us have a look at lithium hypochlorite. It is considered to be the more stable form of chlorine. As it provides a longer shelf life as compared to Cal Hypo or Bleach. It helps to boost the alkalinity of water when dissolved in water and also raises the pH value.
Along with that, it has some cons as well. Like it cannot be found easily as it is not so common. It also has a high cost and low strength. It is also regarded as an insufficient pool sanitizer for a busy commercial pool.
