If you need to install a place to receive your visitors, but you do not have (or do not want) a piece of guests “per se “, surely you are asking yourself this question: should I get a sofa bed or a futon?
Well, they both share functionality and, clearly, with both you can save space. But, in addition to the superficial and obvious issues, such as the sofa bed is better camouflaged, although it is heavier and more voluminous than the futon, there are certain myths that surround these two pieces of furniture.
Today I am going to try to help you clarify three of them, so you can make the decision that best suits what you need.
“They are both very uncomfortable”
Let us start from the basis that the best thing, if you are going to have someone at home for a long time, is that they sleep in a bed, with its structure and mattress. However, for shorter stays, both the futon and the sofa bed are an excellent option.
There was a time when sleeping in either of them was an ordeal: your springs were nailed, your back ached and many creaked with each movement. However, the designs have changed a lot and the new structures are much more solid and ergonomic, and the foams that cover them are more comfortable.
It is important (and no longer impossible) that they are comfortable in their two functions and hopefully they are made of resistant materials, such as steel or hard woods. Try your futon or your sofa bed before buying it: sit down, settle into different positions, make sure they are easy to open and close … In sofa mode the backrest should be fluffy and not too straight, while the seat should have enough depth. To rest better, make sure that, once the bed is open, it has sheets on the bottom and a padded filling, not very hard.
“Futons are for young people”
Futons may have previously been reserved only for traditional Japanese pieces or, in their westernized version, for young people looking for a temporary piece of furniture to accommodate friends. But today, futon designs have evolved a lot.
True, still perfect for the part of a teenager, for living in a shared apartment or your first house, but the futons are one of those SUV choices that may well fit into a hall , one piece multifunction or living in family. There are thousands of designs and sizes! Surely you will find a perfect one for your decoration, whatever it may be.
“The sofa beds take up a lot of space”
Surely a futon is more adaptable than a sofa bed, but not because it is smaller, but because its structure is usually heavier and more robust. After all, a sofa bed looks like a normal sofa … and it occupies the same! Click here for more details. https://www.mydeal.com.au/furniture/living-room/sofas-and-lounges
Just keep in mind that, when you open it, there must be a comfortable space so that your guests can move easily: enter and exit the room, leave their suitcases, open and close the doors (that of the room and the closet), etc.
There was a time when the most common sofa bed was the trundle type, but today there are thousands of different variations and openings. Some even allow you to “save” the bed made with sheets and everything!
